Last February, we announced our objective to extend the France-IX Paris LAN to a /22 IPv4 subnet prefix to always anticipate the France-IX community growth and sustainable development. Currently, we have around 500 IPs available in the /23 IPv4 subnet prefix, +400 active members and we add a minimum of 50 new members each year. So we had to do something about it during 2019 and the earlier, the better.
The operation seems simple but takes several months with a 2-step process:
1/ France-IX modifies the netmask of its two route servers in Paris (one at a time), which was one last February and March
2/ you modify your netmask on all your public peering interfaces - this is where we still stand as of today since early March!
So far, we have not been able to finalize the migration because about 25% of the France-IX Paris members - representing 100 networks - did not do their part despite the numerous reminders. We urge now all latecomers to proceed with this quick change during the summer. We, as a community, can only be as strong as our members. Feel free to contact the technical team for any question or issue.
